Six Things I've Learned About Content Creation

1) Making content helps me refine what I’m learning. They say the best way to learn something is to teach it. Reading, researching and then communicating what you’ve learned helps solidify your expertise in your respective field of knowledge.

2) Art doesn’t need to be perfect to provide value to people. Your own subjective opinion doesn’t matter because you don’t get to decide what’s good and what’s not- leave it up to the market to determine.

3) Consistency is king. Creativity comes in waves, but staying consistent keeps the creativity alive and flowing. If you want to improve your creative skills, the only way to do so is by clocking up those hours.

4) Content isn’t about you. It’s about the audience. You can’t be selfish and win at this game. You have to keep it selfless and think about what’s best for them, not what’s in it for me.

5) Things don’t happen overnight. Some people have the talent to break the internet after a few times posting, but that’s about 1% of people. For the rest, it’s about patience and playing the long game. If you’re in it for the love of the game, then zero gratification shouldn’t be a problem.

6) Putting your work out and speaking your truth is hard, which is why most people don’t do it. Creating content is a big game of overcoming insecurity. If you can somehow block out your inner critic and realise that no one cares what you do, then you have won. People are way less judgemental than your mind leads you to believe, and by putting yourself out there, you gain more love and respect because you become more relatable.
