Estrus is a period of increased sexual receptivity, selectivity and attractiveness in females.

Research has shown that women are most attractive to men when they are at the most fertile point of their cycle.

There are a number of reasons why this may be the case;
- more attractive body scent
- great facial attractiveness
- increase in soft tissue body symmetry
- decreased waist to hip ratio
- higher verbal creativity and fluency

Researchers from the University of New Mexico tested this in a real life setting and found that normally cycling strippers made about US$335 per shift during estrus, US$260 per shift during the luteal phase, and US$185 per shift during menstruation.

These findings suggest that men can detect female fertility quite accurately during the estrous phase of a womans ovulatory cycle. This may be because when men and women interact intimately, women may signal their fertility status through body contact, verbal creativity and body scent.
