There are many reasons why the consumption of eggs is beneficial for healthy brain function, but perhaps the most important of all is the fact that eggs contain a compound called choline.

Choline is responsible for the synthesis and transportation of fats in the brain and body, and it also plays a role in the production of a neurochemical called Acetylcholine, which plays a role in our attention, learning and memory.

Another important thing that eggs contain are vitamin B6 & B12. So, what are the functions of B6 & B12? — B6 helps regulate mood and B12 plays an integral role in the prevention of brain atrophy, which is the loss of neurons that result in cognitive decline.

Studies also suggest that when we have high levels of the amino acid homocysteine in our blood, it increases our chances of heart disease and cognitive decline — B6 and B12 help metabolise homocysteine, reducing its concentration in the blood, thus preventing long term damage to our brain tissue.
